Frequently Asked Questions
-
Who can benefit from respite care?
Respite care can support older people who receive regular assistance from a family member or carer. It gives carers time to rest, manage other responsibilities or attend appointments while their loved one continues to receive appropriate care and support.
Please call our friendly team on 1800 225 474 for more details. -
What is the difference between day respite and short-term respite care?
Day respite provides daytime support in a centre-based setting, with activities, meals and social opportunities while the carer takes a break. Short-term respite involves a temporary stay in a residential aged care home, providing professional support around the clock for a few days or weeks.
Availability for short-term respite care may vary, so we recommend calling our friendly team on 1800 225 474 to secure a spot.
-
Can respite care be provided in my own home?
Yes. In-home respite allows older people to receive support in familiar surroundings. Depending on individual needs, services may include companionship, personal care, assistance around the home and support with outings.
-
Can I extend my residential respite care stay?
If you need more than the standard 63 days of government-subsidised residential respite care in a financial year, an extension may be available in certain circumstances.
This can include situations where your carer is unwell, you are waiting for permanent care or there are exceptional personal or medical reasons.
Further assessment may be required, so our team can help explain the next steps.
-
Is a registered nurse always available on site?
Your care and safety are paramount to us, and our dedicated team is fully trained to provide the highest standard of support at all times.
Please speak with our friendly team on 1800 225 474 for specific needs about your respite care.
